A couple months ago I was driving around town in a bit of a hurry. I hate driving in that state of mind because that’s how accidents usually happen, when people are rushing and not paying complete attention to the road. Well, this was the case that day with me. I ended up blowing through a stop sign and clipping the back end of someone else’s car. They got out of the car real quick and were real ticked off. I was actually a little bit nervous, mostly because I didn’t pay my car insurance bill the last few months and they terminated my contract. I was a little shocked at the cost of the repairs – it didn’t even look like I messed up his car too much, but I guess I did some internal damage. I didn’t know where I was going to get the money for this, but I needed to come up with it because I didn’t want to lose my license for driving with no insurance. I already had a few tickets last year and if I got in anymore trouble for a driving related crime, my license was toast.

My dopey brother said the other day he was lost in thought. That must have been unfamiliar territory for him.

He’s just not the brightest bulb, ya know?  He got his first job last year, at a rental car company at O’Hare, and what does he do with his first paycheck?  Bought a Wii.  The guy doesn’t have two pairs of shoes, and that’s where his money goes. He’s driving our mom’s old Buick everywhere – she gave it to him – and when he drove over a concrete curb in a parking lot, he discovered that catalytic converter replacements cost $900.  Which is two weeks pay for him.  Of course he didn’t have it saved up or anything.

I did love my exwife for the year we dated. The 18 years we were actually married were another story. My girlfriends think I’m funny. But I’m still working the open mike nights, not getting any offers from Zanies or any of the other clubs just yet.
