A polar bear’s skin is black. Its fur is not white, but actually clear. I saw it on Animal Planet.

Which goes to show what we see is not always what’s underneath. My daughter’s situation is a good example. She’s had a run of tough luck. Her husband ran off, leaving her with three kids and rent to pay. She had to get a job, and I pitched in by sitting with the kids. Then her car broke down at the same time her refrigerator gave out. A family down the street from her gave her an old fridge from their garage, which was a blessing.

I had to go to a car pawn loan shop many years ago when I had my own money problems. It was a difficult experience, but I got through it and learned that you sometimes have to look at your assets to figure out how to survive. My daughter doesn’t deserve these kinds of problems, and it’s sad to see the kids living with less than a lot of their school friends. But she’s a survivor, like her mamma.
